About the Data Ventures Team

Our Data Ventures team is responsible for creating reusable, scalable technologies that drive customer acquisition, onboarding, and merchant enablement while ensuring seamless experiences for both partners and customers. This team plays a crucial role in supporting our U.S. Marketplace operations, focusing on providing rapid, effective solutions for seller inquiries and tickets. We collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams throughout the organization to deliver exceptional merchant experiences and ensure the smooth operation of our thriving marketplace ecosystem.

What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines that form the backbone of our analytics capabilities. Your work will directly enable data scientists and business analysts to derive actionable insights that shape retail strategies and improve customer experiences. Here's what your role entails:

Data Transformation and Integration

• Extract data from identified databases and disparate sources with precision and efficiency


• Design and develop robust data pipelines that transform raw data into structured, relevant formats optimized for specific business problems


• Stay current with emerging data analysis trends and incorporate best practices into pipeline architecture


• Implement scalable data processing frameworks that can handle petabytes of information

Data Source Identification

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirement demands and service level agreements


• Identify the most suitable data sources that align with business objectives


• Perform initial data quality assessments on extracted datasets to ensure reliability


• Evaluate data provenance and establish governance frameworks for data lineage

Data Modeling

• Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, relationships, and dependencies to develop comprehensive data models


• Create conceptual, physical, and logical data models that serve as blueprints for our data infrastructure


• Develop Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models including data warehouse and data lake designs


• Define relational tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures to establish robust data architecture


• Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for inconsistencies and optimization opportunities


• Design efficient data flows that minimize latency and maximize throughput


• Investigate data integration challenges and propose elegant, scalable solutions

Code Development and Testing

• Write clean, efficient code to develop required solutions and application features using appropriate programming languages


• Create test cases to review and validate proposed solution designs


• Develop proofs of concept to validate technical approaches before full implementation


• Implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing


• Deploy software to production servers with proper release management protocols


• Maintain comprehensive code documentation and keep playbooks up to date

Applied Business Context

• Provide strategic recommendations to business partners to address complex business challenges


• Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings


• Translate business requirements into technical tasks, activities, and deliverables


• Adapt to evolving business processes and identify opportunities for process improvement


• Propose new methodologies and approaches to enhance operational efficiency

Data Governance

• Establish, refine, and report on data governance operations and recommendations


• Implement data governance practices in collaboration with business partners and peers


• Interpret organizational and regulatory policies regarding data usage and privacy


• Educate team members on data governance processes, practices, methodologies, and standards


• Provide recommendations for updates or contributions to data governance policies

Leadership and Mentorship

• Demonstrate exceptional expertise and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of operational plans


• Provide expert advice and guidance to junior team members


• Support and adjust efforts to meet client and business needs


• Build commitment for perspectives and reasoning across the team


• Develop training documentation and train end-users on data modeling concepts


• Supervise tasks of less experienced programmers and provide technical troubleshooting support

What You'll Bring

Essential Qualifications

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency with Hadoop, Spark, Cloud platforms, Python/PySpark, and Java


• Programming Skills: Proven track record coding with at least one programming language such as Scala or Python


• Cloud Platform Experience: Fluency in at least one major cloud computing platform such as GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or Azure


• Data Modeling: Strong skills in data modeling and data migration protocols


• Preferred Experience: Experience with GCP, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools


• Integration Tools: Experience with integration tools such as Automic, Wind Flux, or similar platforms


• Big Data Solutions: Experience building highly scalable Big Data solutions and ETL ecosystems


• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Databricks is an added advantage


• Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB alongside RDBMS such as MySQL or PostgreSQL


• Practical working experience with messaging platforms like Kafka


• Demonstrated ability to increase team efficiency by optimizing cycles of Software Development, Requirement Gathering, and Effort Estimation


• Exhibiting innovative, critical thinking, and strong problem-solving skills


• Advanced degree in Computer Science or related technical field
