What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities
As a crucial member of our pharmacy team, you'll play a multifaceted role that combines technical expertise with outstanding customer service. Here's what you can expect:
- Patient Interaction and Relationship Building: Engage with customers and patients by greeting them warmly and providing assistance with our wide range of services and products. Resolve customer issues and answer inquiries to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Prescription Processing: Utilize our advanced pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, accurately process prescriptions, and ensure all information is entered correctly. This includes retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical tablets, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for possible drug interactions.
- Pharmacy Operations Support: Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policies. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately and adhere to company rules and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement programs. Strictly adhere to company policy regarding good faith dispensing across all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Financial Handling: Register all related income on assigned cash registers, collect and handle cash as required. Take customers to over-the-counter aisles when possible to assist in finding products.
- Communication: Handle telephone calls that don't require the personal attention of the pharmacist, including calls to physicians. Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription program services in a timely and efficient manner.
- Inventory Management: Assist and support pharmacy department stock management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of prescription drugs. Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and document claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods related to prescription medications.
- Clinical Services Support: May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services such as the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other medical services as required. Assist pharmacy staff in coordinating clinical services, healthcare clinics, and external vendors.
- Community Relationships: Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, through medical provider detailing and outreach to health agencies, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist with outside and inside maintenance by ensuring the pharmacy department is stocked with adequate supplies and maintained in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.

Education and Personal Development

- Certification Support: Earn and maintain PTCB certification through our unique PTCB training program and/or state-required certification/registration. If not already certified, you'll earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Continuing Education: Attend training and complete required learning activities as requested by your manager. You'll maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest information and developments in the field.
- College Credit Opportunity: Through completion of the arenaflex Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship program, your experience qualifies for 8 (eight) college credit hours as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). This course is recommended for 3 semester hours at the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category and 5 semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category for a total of 8 semester hours.
Qualifications We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months of experience in a retail environment
- Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting
- Strong math skills to fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring, and weighing medicines
- Proficient computer skills
- Knowledge of store inventory control
- PTCB certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with customer service roles
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
